Converting an Electric Stove to Gas in a Guelph Home
Most of Guelph's 1960s–80s housing was built all-electric. Bringing gas to the kitchen is routine — but it's two trades, not one.

What actually changes
A new branch gas line runs from your main to the kitchen, ending in a shut-off behind the range. The existing 240V range circuit is either decommissioned or, for a dual-fuel range, kept live. Gas-only ranges still need a standard 120V outlet for ignition and controls.
Who does what
The gas line, shut-off, connector, leak test and range hookup are gas-technician work. Removing or capping the 240V circuit is an electrician's job. We coordinate both so you're not managing two trades and two invoices.
Cost in Guelph, 2026
Gas line to the kitchen plus hookup: typically $700–$1,500 depending on run length and how much finished ceiling is in the way. Electrician for the old circuit: usually $150–$350. Dual-fuel ranges add nothing on the gas side but need the 240V circuit verified.
Don't skip the hood
Gas combustion indoors produces moisture and combustion byproducts. Ontario code doesn't force a range hood on every gas range, but venting to the outside is strongly recommended — a recirculating hood does nothing for it.
